1.Is DATS just for Safety Management Systems?

If you know our background, you will know why we get asked this a lot. We are safety certification experts.

We are, however, also trained in other types of management systems and audit standards. There are, in fact, huge overlaps between most systems, and that is why DATS works so well with each of them. It does not matter if your needs are health, safety, quality, or environments – DATS has the fundamental tools that you are looking for.

2.What is the difference between an Active and Tracked user?

Active users are able to login to DATS. Tracked users are tracked by DATS, but they cannot login.

3.Can we change packages over time? Are there fees to change plans or limitations on how many changes can be made?

You can change plans any time you want. There are no fees or limitations.

4.We have seasonal operations. Can we do something to our account when we are not working?

You bet. We can put your account in hibernation mode and you will only pay for the individuals that you want to keep active.

5.If DATS does not work out for us, how do we get out with all of our data?

If DATS does not work out for your company at this time, we will not hold your data hostage! You can download all of your information freely at any time. If you need a couple of extra months to move things out, we can hibernate your account and just keep a few administrators online to gather data as needed.

Al tables and records can be either exported or printed anytime you want.

6.Can we limit access to certain areas of DATS for some of our employees?

DATS has a robust and configurable permission system with unlimited combinations. You can define exactly “who gets access to what”.

7.Can we include some of our contractors?

You sure can – and it is a great idea. You can include your contractors for tracking purposes or you can connect them directly to DATS to interact with Tasks, access your Learning Management System, and access your MSDS (to list a few quick ideas).

8.If we dismiss an employee, do we keep paying for their account for as long as we may need the records?

People who no longer work for your company can be deleted and placed in a holding tank for future reference. We do not charge for people in your holding tank. Additionally, if the person starts to work for your company again, they can be un-deleted.

9.What kind of training is included or available?

DATS has built-in training courses that cover the basics. These courses include quizzes so you can assign training to people, and keep track of their completion. Some companies benefit from a little consultant-based training. There is strong and growing network of solution providers across Western Canada who can provide onsite or web-based training to your personnel.

10.What kind of support is included or available?

All DATS accounts include ticket-based support where you can submit a question or a request. You also have free and unlimited access our Premium Live Help throughout the normal work day.

11.Which browsers will DATS work happily with?

You can use any of the following browsers:

  • On PCs - IE7 or IE8, Firefox 2 or later, Safari 2 or later
  • On Macs - Firefox 2 or later, Safari 2 or later
  • On Linux - Firefox 2 or later

IE6 does work but it is really old, we don’t test DATS on it and nor do want to support it anymore. Plus, it is slow & lacks modern browser features like tabbed browsing and integrated searching – so stop torturing yourself!

Recommended: If you are a PC user, you should really be using FireFox. Talk to you local geek if you don’t believe us. Plus, we have noticed that DATS runs nearly twice as fast on FireFox over IE7. Oh, it’s also free and has a ton of cool extensions and themes that you can download.

12.Can I access DATS from my iPhone or Blackberry?

You sure can. The only items that will not work are flash animations, courses, and quizzes. These mobile devices do not yet accommodate flash files.

13.What types of files can be added to the learning management system?

DATS supports many industry standard media types such as: Documents, PowerPoint, Flash, Videos, the full Articulate suite of products, and more.

14.How big can uploaded files be?

There are a number of different places where files can be uploaded to DATS. We have capped the individual file size at 20 MB each (which is huge) and you can upload any number of files. There are no limits to how many files you can add.

15.Is the DATS Learning Management System SCORM compliant?

DATS is built to accommodate SCORM compliant courses. If you don’t know what this means, it likely does not matter to you. It’s LMS geek speak.

16.Can you make courses or quizzes for us?

We can make courses, training documents, and quizzes in either the Microsoft Office suite or using e-learning development tools.

17.Is our data safe and secure?

Absolutely. We store your data on powerful and secure servers that are backed up often. We protect your DATS account with hash based password security, inactive session timeouts and SSL-based security which is the same security used on credit card pages and banking websites. Trust us - it's safe!

In addition, our staff will never view your account data without your express permission. The data is held in database tables which have limited access to our team of staff. Absolute integrity and privacy is guaranteed on our part.

18.Can we have our own secure login page?

This functionality is currently being investigated by our IT department for inclusion.

If you want your people to be able to login to DATS from your own website that is possible too but not recommended.

19.What forms of payment to you accept?

We can provide monthly invoices which can be paid by company cheque.

Automatic VISA and MasterCard payment options are also available. Invoices, marked paid, can be sent via email or in hard copy.

20.Is there an initial licensing fee?

DATS has no licensing fees. Our competitors in this industry and similar online applications charge between $8k and $100k+ just to get in the door. DATS charges you nothing.

We know, it’s hard to believe, but it is true and we are sticking to it. We are targeting long-term growth and relationship building, not quick cash and burning bridges.

21. So, what will it cost us to get set-up, trained, and launched?

Our computer savvy clients of late have been almost effortless to set-up. They learn the basic principles quickly, do most of the work themselves, get a couple of check-ups along the way, and then launch DATS to their employees (if they are going that direction).

Our complete set-up, training, and launch packages range in price from $750 to $10k+. The larger amounts accommodate our bigger clients who have complicated Integrated Management Systems and extensive “power user” training needs.

Most companies can be completely ready to roll (including training), with a host of new online training courses (and their own training content) added online and ready to be accessed (or tracked) by employees for $2,500 or less.

22.Do you charge for updates or new features?

All feature updates and additions are provided automatically and without charge. You will not have to install any software, but you will likely have to define who gets access to the “new toys”.

23.What if we want a feature added to DATS?

We pride ourselves on listening to our customers and guiding our developments and refinements from their feedback. If DATS is missing something that you want, let us know and we will try to weave it in if it makes sense in the “big picture”.

24.What else do the DATS people do?

Our long-term and fundamental business is in helping companies achieve and maintain safety certification. Our consulting firm is called Advanced Safety Management. We got started back in the 90’s helping companies in Alberta earn “CORs”. Now we headquarter out of B.C. and work with companies throughout Western Canada. We build Safety Management Systems, conduct Supervisory Staff and Manager training sessions, and mentor companies through effective and compliant Safety Management System implementation. We also conduct audits for multiple Certifying Partners and train internal and external auditors for the forest industry.
